I think that you might want to try something else to build up his confidence. Guard dogs or any other “attack” trained dog should not have any tendencies towards shyness or weak nerves. Most knowledgeable trainers will not train a dog with weak nerves for guard or attack work. They are just too unpredictable.

    The previous answerer is right.
The worst thing you can do with a dog who lacks confidence is to try and train him as a guard dog. Your dog needs socialising around people and other dogs. Take him back to obedience classes – make sure it’s a good one – explain his problem and trainers can work with you and him on his problems.
